Flowers are of great importance in Spain, both in popular culture and in religion and tradition.
-The offering of flowers to the Virgin: During the Mercè festival in Barcelona, the Fallas in Valencia and other religious events, an offering of flowers is made to the Virgin. The locals bring flowers to form a floral mantle that covers the image of the Virgin.
-Flowers during Holy Week: During Holy Week, the streets are decorated with carpets of flowers for the procession. In addition, many flowers are used to decorate religious images, such as lilies, roses and carnations.
-Flowers at the Feria de Abril: During the Feria de Abril in Seville, the "casetas" are decorated with flowers and gardening competitions are held to reward the best decorated "caseta". Many flowers are also used to decorate the women's dresses and hairstyles.
